Here are several tips to acquire clients now –
Select your niche –
Imagine a baseball player who tries to throw the baseball with a blindfold on. He has no clue where he’s throwing the ball! This is what’s happening when you don’t have a niche.
You may want to offer a wide range of services with the hopes of appealing to a greater audience. But this path makes it more difficult to showcase your talent, obscuring from clients why you’re the right person for a specific job.
Your message will be more magnetic to the right type of client when YOU are clear on who you’re serving.
Set up affiliate partnerships to gain referrals
People trust their peers’ recommendations and trust testimonials through a behavior called social proof.
The easiest way to build this social proof is to ask your clients to speak on your behalf.
- Offering small commissions on referrals that convert – set up a simple affiliate agreement to accomplish this
- Offer your clients a small token of appreciation when they write testimonials (Amazon gift cards work well)
- Partnering with other professionals whose client base sometimes needs your expertise.
Guest blog and get on others podcasts
Once you’ve set your specialty niche, establish yourself as the expert.
Improve these chances by striking a presence where your audience spends time. A great way to do this is by writing a guest blog related to — and promoting — your specialty.
How to find clients with blog posts:
- Answer common questions or challenges your potential client has
- Share your freebies that help your client with one of those challenges
- Share stories of past client wins or transformations
- Offer details on lessons learned, common misconceptions, or what not to do.
- Explain your views on industry trends.
- ALWAYS have a call to action leading people somewhere – your Facebook group, your newsletter, an offer, etc.
A strong LinkedIn presence helps establish you as a thought leader, promoting your expertise and services to the most relevant decision-makers.
Utilize LinkedIn
Other platforms have benefits, however, LinkedIn is where many business relationships begin and thrive. According to the platform, four out of five people on LinkedIn drive business decisions, making it a powerful lead-generation tool if you use it right.
- Position yourself. Make sure your defined niche is clear so you’re speaking to your soul clients/target audience.
- Optimize your profile. Fill out your profile and include details about your work and a professional headshot
- Ask for recommendations. These reinforce your business’s social proof digitally.
- Join groups and add value. Answer questions in these groups and post your own content, too
- Post content frequently. Include links to your guest posts, programs, content, or blogs/articles you think your audience would find interesting.
Network
Face-to-face interactions are more memorable and forging these relationships expands your network to huge new audiences.
Get out from behind the screen at:
- Industry conferences and trade shows.
- Local business or professional association events.
- Chamber of commerce meetings.
- Speaking engagements.
No matter what strategy you use, the goal is to bring in a new prospect and ultimately a client. Your elevator pitch needs to concisely and clearly explain your unique selling proposition in about 30 seconds — whether you’re delivering it in person or in writing.
When pitching a prospective client, make sure to:
- Address their specific problem.
- Explain your solution with examples of how or why it works.
- Intrigue with results a client can expect.
- Set expectations for timing and client commitments.
This pitch should end with a brief call to action that teases your full proposal, in which you hammer out the finer details like the scope of work, deliverables, timeline, and client fees.
